The Month of May
As the weather breaks and summer finnaly sets in, the month of may is a sad month for us teachers - saying goodbye to good old year 11 and wishing them the best with last minute preperatons for thier GCSE's.
So whats happening in Geography this month?
> Year 7 have juust completed fieldwork and are writing up their study for the local area investigation. An example of past pupils work and levels achieved can be found here.
> Year 8 have been alaysing the disaster movie VOLCANO and are going to be producing a 'script' for a diaster movie. They will be choosing a diaster movie theme (and genre) working individually or in pairs and producing a professional document which could be sent to the BBC!
The pupils have also been considering the impacts of natural disasters on the lives of individuals within the affected country. However, the Volcanic Eruption in Iceland last month also illustrates how these diasters have effected people in countries many miles away from were the eruption took place.
>Year 9 are tackling the theme of Geography of Sport. They are currently working on their investigations where they have chosen a selected team participating in the world cup in South Africa this summer to research about. They have designed a range of questions in which to research about their repective country.

Within this theme they will explore the range of processes and landforms associated with rivers and so too, the various issues/strategies of water managment. The pupils will embark on a journey down the river USK, produce a movie of the rivers long profile as well as analyse the issues of water management using the BBC documentary "The Worlds Waterways" which explores areas of the Middle East, USA, Brazil and France - not to mention Africa.

The GCSE Revision booklet is now available for purchase at a cost of £6
The book contains a range of information for both the CORE and OPTIONAL units.
It is co-produced by the Geography subject examiner Mr Dirk Sykes - so should be helpful!!
